How to add shapes using the shape tools in PhotoShop Print

This tutorial will show you how to use the shape tools in Photoshop

This tutorial assumes you already have your picture open in Photoshop

1) Select the shape tool from the toolbar


2) Click and drag with the mouse to create a shape using the ellipse tool


Note that the ellipse tool is currently selected

3) An ellipse has been created. To make a perfect circle, hold down the shift key while clicking and dragging with the mouse

4) Additional options can be set by clicking the arrow


Here, you can force a shape to be a fixed size or force the shape tool to create only shapes that are proportional to the width and height you specify

These options can be applied to the ellipse tool as well as the rectangle, rounded rectangle, and custom shape tools

5) To create a rectangle, select the rectangle tool


6) Click and drag with the mouse


A rectangle has been created. To create a perfect square, hold down the shift key while clicking and dragging

7) To create a polygon, select the polygon tool


8) Click and drag with the mouse


9) Click the arrow to adjust options for the polygon


10) You can create a star shape by selecting the box


11) Type in a percentage by which you want to indent the sides


12) Click and drag to create the shape


13) Enter a number in the box to set the number of sides for the polygon


14) Click and drag to create a shape


15) To create a line, select the Line Tool


16) Select additional options by clicking the arrow


17) You can add arrowheads to the start and end of the line by checking the appropriate boxes


18) You can also set the width, length, and concavity of the arrowheads

19) Type in the desired weight of the line


20) Click and drag to create the shape


21) To create a custom shape, select the Custom Shape Tool


22) Click and drag to create the shape


23) Select another shape by clicking the arrow


24) Click and drag to create the shape


25) Change the color of a shape by selecting the box


26) Choose a new color and click OK


27) To change the color of a shape you made previously, hold the control key and select the shape


28) Then, select the color box

29) Choose your new color and click OK


30) Another way to change the color of a shape is to double click on its color box in the Layers palette


31) Choose a new color and click OK
