How to Find Softaculous in cPanel and Install a Script

Softaculous is an application installer available in cPanel that allows you to easily install popular website scripts such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and many others with just a few clicks.

This guide explains how to locate Softaculous in cPanel and install a script using the installer.


Step 1: Log in to cPanel

  1. Open your web browser.

  2. Go to your cPanel login page.

Example:

https://yourdomain.com/cpanel
  1. Enter your cPanel username and password.

  2. Click Log in.


Step 2: Locate Softaculous in cPanel

Once logged in to cPanel:

  1. Scroll down to the Software section.

  2. Click Softaculous Apps Installer.

Depending on your hosting configuration, you may also see quick icons for popular scripts such as:

  • WordPress

  • Joomla

  • Drupal

Clicking any of these icons will also open the Softaculous installer.


Step 3: Choose the Script You Want to Install

  1. In the Softaculous dashboard, browse the available applications using the left sidebar categories.

  2. Click on the script you want to install (for example: WordPress).

  3. Click the Install button.


Step 4: Configure the Installation Settings

Fill in the required installation details.

Choose Installation URL

  • Choose Protocol: Select http:// or https://

  • Choose Domain: Select the domain where you want the script installed

  • In Directory: Leave blank to install on the main domain (example: example.com)

If you enter a folder name such as:

blog

The script will install at:

example.com/blog

Site Settings

Enter the basic site information:

  • Site Name

  • Site Description

These can usually be changed later within the script itself.


Admin Account

Create the administrator login for the script:

  • Admin Username

  • Admin Password

  • Admin Email

Important: Use a strong password and avoid using "admin" as the username for better security.


Step 5: Complete the Installation

  1. Review your settings.

  2. Click Install.

Softaculous will begin installing the script automatically. This usually takes less than a minute.

Once complete, you will see links for:

  • Your Website URL

  • Admin Login URL


Managing Installed Scripts

You can manage your installed applications by returning to Softaculous Apps Installer and selecting Installations from the top menu.

From there you can:

  • Log in to the script admin area

  • Update the script

  • Backup your installation

  • Remove the script

  • Always keep your scripts updated to maintain security.
