If your domain is currently registered with another registrar, you can transfer the registration to eNom to manage the domain from your hosting account.
This guide explains the steps required to transfer a domain to eNom.
Before You Begin
Before starting the transfer, make sure the following requirements are met:
-
The domain must be more than 60 days old.
-
The domain must not have been transferred within the last 60 days.
-
The domain must be unlocked at the current registrar.
-
You must obtain the EPP / Authorization Code from your current registrar.
-
The administrative email address for the domain must be active to approve the transfer.
Step 1: Unlock the Domain at Your Current Registrar
Most registrars place a lock on domains to prevent unauthorized transfers.
To unlock your domain:
-
Log in to your current domain registrar.
-
Locate your domain management section.
-
Find the Domain Lock or Registrar Lock setting.
-
Disable or unlock the domain.
Your domain must be unlocked before it can be transferred.
Step 2: Obtain the EPP / Authorization Code
The EPP Code (also called an Authorization Code) is required to verify ownership of the domain.
To obtain it:
-
Log in to your current domain registrar.
-
Navigate to the domain management page.
-
Locate the EPP Code / Authorization Code option.
-
Request or copy the code.
Some registrars will email the code to the domain's administrative contact email address.
Step 3: Start the Transfer Order
To begin the transfer:
-
Visit your hosting provider's client area.
-
Select Transfer Domain.
-
Enter the domain name you want to transfer.
-
Enter the EPP / Authorization Code when prompted.
-
Continue through the checkout process.
Step 4: Approve the Domain Transfer
After the transfer request is submitted:
-
A transfer approval email will be sent to the domain's administrative contact.
-
Open the email and follow the instructions to approve the transfer.
The transfer will not proceed until it is approved.
Step 5: Wait for the Transfer to Complete
Once approved, the domain transfer process usually takes 5 to 7 days to complete.
During this time:
-
The current registrar may send a confirmation email.
-
In some cases, you may be able to approve or expedite the transfer through your current registrar.
Once completed, the domain will be managed through eNom.
What Happens During the Transfer?
When a domain transfer is completed:
-
The domain registration is moved to eNom.
-
The domain's expiration date is extended by one year.
-
Your DNS settings usually remain unchanged.
Your website and email should continue working normally if DNS settings are not modified.
